Ayatana Coorg is a 53 room resort set in a large coffee estate in Somwarpet, Coorg. The resort is a small part of the huge estate property which has it's own private waterfall. The scope of our design intervention included comprehensive interior design as well as exterior finishes and details.
The reception is a liner architectural volume suspended on stilts amidst an envelope of trees. The interior design direction was minimal, with a lot of open floor space to instill a resort like entry experience. Ball lights suspended above the teak furniture bring a sense of warmth, intimacy and surrealism to the space.
The restaurant and bar spaces are designed to be glass houses just placed in the lush landscape. The visual language was light and airy, with very simple whites and gray background. This allows the green to permeate the space and make it a part of the outside. The furniture again is floating and the volume capped by suspended wooden lights.
The heart of the hospitality project is of course, the rooms . Ayatana offers a Standard room and a Suite option. The standard rooms are double cottage units and suites are standalone, both on stilts against steep hill contours. The exterior finishes were selected with a high contrast in mind. Signage for the rooms incorporates a cutout of the logo motif with the number of the room, both of which is back-lit to be spotted easily in the night.
The design for the room layouts and interior was minimal in essence and modern in style with a limited colour palette reminiscent of natural wood, neutral whites and cool grays.
The balconies are the best part of the cottages and the seating and furniture pieces
