Hello was an adaptive rebuild on an existing restaurant as part of the Plus hotel revamp. This pub which is ~2000 sft spread over two floors was completed in very quick time. In the picture below the old dining hall from the hotel is seen, the roof was removed and a new steel exoskeleton plugged into to create the new project.
The design includes a small performance area in the double height volume which is filled with hanging lights and bulbs. The backdrop wall with the checkered floor and the raw shell lends a very graphic and pop contrast to the whole ambience.
The dining spaces in a pub, whether there's loud music, people dancing and what not, still need to be an intimate experience. The design tries to achieve that with pendant lamps, bringing the scale down at every table. The artwork is a series of vintage travel posters, adding to the rustic look and feel.
The design of the upper floor of the pub is almost inverse in approach to the ground floor. An entire section of this floor is open to its sides so it blurs the inside-outside line. This gesture brings the greenery from the adjoining silver oak trees as well as acknowledges the views to the golf links opposite the property.
