A design proposal for a playschool remodelled from an existing house in Indiranagar, Bangalore. The playschool caters to a day care facility as well as a play home for children between the age group of 2-4 years. The design direction was to keep it lively, cheerful and functional all tied into one knot delivering the final possibility in terms of design.
The Material palette is predominantly monochrome with elements of light wood. Color in terms of paint on walls, colorful subway tiles and solid color laminates make the second layer of the shell.
Colour is brought into the space in the form of paint on walls and colourful tiles on toilet walls and will be restricted to the eye height of a child.. A colour palette comprising of oranges, browns and greens will be followed throughout the space.
All the furniture in the playschool like : storage units, shelves, tables and chairs will be restricted to a single material/color : Beech wood. This helps in decluttering a classroom which will be filled with various toys of different shapes/sizes and colors.
The classroom walls will have hooks, clips, panels etc mounted at a reachable height for the kids to hang / display their artwork by themselves. Open shelves will also be provided that can be easily accessed by the children.
